Curriculum

At Corby Primary Academy, we implement a CLIMB curriculum: collaboration, language, inclusion, memorable and bold. The children are led on a progressive, exciting journey from the time they start with us in Nursery, to the time they leave us in Year 6. Our school values of respect, responsibility and resilience are woven throughout our ambitious curriculum.

Our CLIMB curriculum will:

  • Develop and nurture successful, knowledgeable pupils who enjoy and immerse themselves in their learning;
  • Enhance the vocabulary and experiences of pupils, ensuring they become well-rounded citizens with the local and global community;
  • Foster a love of learning.

(C) Collaborative – At Corby Primary, we encourage children to work together to support their learning. Teachers work closely alongside teaching assistants to assist the learning of all pupils to ensure that everyone makes progress.

(L) Language – We are committed in our approach to vocabulary. Throughout the academy, vocabulary is a highlight of our working walls and each English lesson begins with a revision of our ‘Word of the Week’. We believe that developing confident, articulate linguists will allow our pupils to fully immerse themselves in their learning.

(I) Inclusion – We are proud of the breadth of learners we have at Corby Primary. Whether a pupil speaks a different language or has a Special Educational Need or Disability, we fully immerse them with scaffolded and ambitious teaching to ensure that all children make good progress.

(M) Memorable – We are acutely aware of the learning that takes place when a pupil is fully engaged in their learning. Our teachers plan exciting, interesting lessons that capture the imagination of our pupils, checking for learning and understanding through regular ‘Flashbacks’ at the beginning of lessons.

(B) Bold – We encourage our pupils to be brave during their time at Corby Primary. Whether this be pushing themselves to complete a particular piece of work, asking questions to deepen their learning or trying something new for the first time, we expect our pupils to push themselves out of their comfort zone.

Our curriculum is designed to support the National Curriculum and our local context.  Learning is planned to enable pupils to acquire knowledge, apply skills and develop links between subject areas.  Our curriculum is enriched with a number of educational visits and enhanced experiences.
