Intent:

At Corby Primary Academy, our intent for Physical Education (PE) is to cultivate a lifelong passion for physical activity and a healthy lifestyle among all our pupils. Our PE curriculum is designed to allow pupils to collaborate using developed language skills, promoting physical literacy, personal and social development. We foster a safe, inclusive environment where children feel able to express themselves in each PE session. During each memorable lesson, we develop children's fundamental movement skills, ensuring these skills are accessible to every pupil, empowering them to be bold and therefore participate in a variety of sports and physical activities. With this intent, we focus on building resilience, respect and responsibility amongst our pupils, inspiring them to remain active beyond school.

Implementation:

To deliver our vision effectively, we implement a progressive and coherent PE curriculum resourced by Get Set 4 PE, which is aligned with the National Curriculum. Our approach includes:

  • Diverse Curriculum Offerings: We provide a broad range of activities, including gymnastics, dance, athletics, games, and outdoor education. Our inclusive approach caters to different abilities and ensures every pupil has the opportunity to participate.
  • Expert Teaching: Our PE lessons are delivered by qualified instructors who receive ongoing professional development. This training empowers them to embrace teaching strategies that encourage collaboration, inclusivity, and responsible participation, ensuring all pupils are fully engaged.
  • Emphasis on Language Development: We actively incorporate sport-specific language into our PE lessons, to expose children to new vocabulary.
  • Assessment and Progress Monitoring: We regularly assess and monitor students' progress using both formative and summative assessment techniques. This ensures all children feel included and challenged while supporting their next steps in physical education.
  • Community and Parental Involvement: By engaging parents and the local community, we foster a collaborative network that encourages participation in physical activities beyond school. Our events are designed to be memorable, highlighting our values of respect, resilience, and responsibility around physical activity.

Impact

Overall, the Physical Education Curriculum at Corby Primary Academy not only meets but exceeds expectations for delivering high-quality PE. Our focus on collaboration, language development, inclusivity, memorable experiences, and bold participation ensures that every child has a voice in their physical education journey and is encouraged to thrive as a healthy, active, and well-rounded individual. We ensure that our PE curriculum is progressive and allows children to develop fundamental skills and apply them to a variety of fun sports and activities that the children are interested and inspired to take part in. Our pupils are physically active, not just within the PE lesson, but throughout the day - this has positive implications on their learning inside the classroom. Children understand how to lead a healthy lifestyle and understand the importance of exercise.  We hope children enjoy PE and develop a love of sport, and physical activity, that they pursue outside in future life.
